How far is Jarvis Island from the Equator?

According to The Pacific Islands Benthic Habitat Mapping Center, Jarvis Island lies 41 kilometers, or 22 nauatical miles south of the equator. However the United States Fish and Wildlife Service says that the Jarvis Island National Wildlife Refuge is "18 miles south of the equator and 1,300 miles south of Honolulu".

The latter may take into account that Jarvis Island National Wildlife Refuge is "over 36,400 acres, including 1,100-acre Jarvis Island". The 36,400 acres, or 56.8 square miles, includes vast coral reefs and other delicate ecosystems, which make Jarvis Island a small portion of the entire reserve.
